The platform offers a number of tie breakers and options to seed your standings. If a tie can't be determined between the participants an email is sent to the event contact to manually override the standings with a physical coin flip or some other means.
There are a preset number of rules already in place and processed in the order listed. These can be seen on the Event Settings (Events -> Click Event Name -> Settings in submenu -> Click Pools section) or Global Settings (Settings in main menu) within your Director account. Each tie breaker rule is described below:
Winning Percentage or Points
By default Winning Percentage is used to determine the the initial set of standings. The total number of wins plus half the number of ties, divided by the total number of games.
Team 1: 4-0-1 = .9
Team 2: 3-2-0 = .6
If Points are entered then those values are used instead of winning percentage. Points are usually used in Soccer.
Wins = 5
Losses = -1
Ties = 2
Team 1: 4-0-1 = 22
Team 2: 3-2-0 = 13
Games back reflects the gap between a leading team and another team in a division or pool. Games back is used when there is a tie between winning percentages and a different number of games have been played and games have yet to be played.
If there is a tie between teams for winning percentage/games back or points the tie breaker rule is used and can contain the following rules:
Head To Head
If two teams are being compared and have played each other then the winner is determined by who beat each other the most. If teams didn't play each other this rule is ignored.
Differential or Differential (All Teams)
Point differential takes the total margin a team won or loss by limited by the Maximum Point Differential if set between all their games.
Differential (Teams In Tie)
This works the same as Differential above, except it only takes the games between the teams in the tie. If a game was played between one of the teams in the tie and one that isn't in the tie, that game is not used in differential.
This works the same as Differential above except it ignores the Max Point Differential if it was set.
The sum of final scores by the team in all games. Participants with a higher number are placed higher in the standings.
The sum of final scores by the team's opponent in all games. Participants with a lower number are placed higher in the standings.
If there was ever a situation where you have three or more teams in a tie, the final two teams in the tie revert back to the first tie breaker which is usually Head to Head instead of the current rule being used.
An example would be 3 teams in a tie, and the first team is determined by point differential. The second place team in point differential got beat by the third place team. Checking repeat here will first check Head to Head if the teams played each other making the third place team in point differential actually second in the standings.
For differential you can set a maximum value if a participant goes over it. This will limit differential for blow out games. If a Forfeit occurs this value will be used if set.
Our system by default let's the event director do a physical coin flip, however you can have our system randomly choose the winner and override the standings automatically.
You can determine when standings go into a bracket with the following options:
All Places Completed
By default all games need to have a final score for standings to be complete and be placed in a bracket.
Any Place Completed
If a place in the standings can be determined before all games are completed then they are placed in a bracket.
If an event director would like to manually set standings and the bracket then Manual will not do anything once standings are complete. The can override standings manually and override brackets manually if this option was chosen.
